Authorities in Gurugram have managed to dismantle an illegal online gaming and betting operation, leading to the arrest of four individuals. These arrests were made following an investigation into a platform defrauding consumers with fake betting opportunities, according to a police representative.
Investigations revealed that the suspects used bookie IDs to engage users with enticing advertisements for online gaming. This allowed them to exploit the platform for illegal betting activities. The police further shared that participants created IDs, transacted using QR codes, and were subsequently given digital points with the suspects allegedly earning a 20% commission from these dealings.
Acting on technical leads, a raid was conducted at a residential unit in Signature Global Society, Sector 37D, leading to the arrests. Officers confiscated a suite of digital devices and financial instruments used in their operations. The arrested individuals hailed from different parts of Haryana and Uttar Pradesh.
The police have lodged a case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Haryana Prevention of Gambling Act. Initial interrogations indicate the group operated under instructions from an external source, who facilitated their operations through various digital means. The investigation continues as authorities examine the possibility of additional accomplices involved.
