Abhishek Banerjee Receives CID Summons Over Signature Fraud Allegation

The West Bengal CID has issued a summons to TMC national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee in connection with an investigation into allegedly forged signatures in a letter supporting Shobhandeb Chattopadhyay as Leader of the Opposition. The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of West Bengal has called upon Trinamool Congress (TMC) national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee. He is to present himself in relation to an inquiry regarding the supposed use of forged signatures of party legislators, linked to a letter submitted to the Assembly Secretariat recommending Shobhandeb Chattopadhyay as the Leader of the Opposition.

CID sources described the notice, handed over at Banerjee’s Kalighat Road home, as a formal directive for his forthcoming questioning at the agency's headquarters. The handover captured public attention, unfolding over an intensive 90-minute scenario through Kolkata. Officers, initially blocked at one residence due to Banerjee's absence, eventually delivered the notice at his alternative residence. Banerjee, denouncing the move as politically motivated, stated, "I will cooperate fully with the investigation yet stand by my convictions."
