Abhishek Banerjee Summoned by West Bengal CID Over Signature Forgery Investigation

West Bengal's CID has called Abhishek Banerjee for questioning in an inquiry involving alleged forged signatures related to an Assembly Secretariat communication. The notice was delivered after a dramatic series of events and is considered political maneuvering by Banerjee, who vows to cooperate with the probe.

The West Bengal CID has summoned Trinamool Congress' Abhishek Banerjee for questioning in connection with an investigation into alleged forgery involving the signatures of party legislators. The signatures in question appeared in a communication submitted to the Assembly Secretariat supporting Shobhandeb Chattopadhyay as Leader of the Opposition.

After a sequence of dramatic developments, CID officers delivered the notice to Banerjee at his Kalighat residence. The procedure attracted public attention and extended over an hour as officers initially failed to gain entry to Banerjee's primary residence due to his absence. Speaking later, Banerjee accused authorities of political vendetta.

Banerjee insisted he would consult with legal advisors and fully cooperate with the investigation, despite alleging political motives behind the summons. The inquiry stems from a controversial letter that led to a police complaint regarding the authenticity of Nayna Banerjee's signature.

CID has already questioned several TMC MLAs during this probe. The case follows a TMC strategy meeting where selected MLAs had reportedly endorsed Chattopadhyay for a cabinet minister-rank post.
