The US military has intercepted a Gambian-flagged merchant ship attempting to breach its blockade on Iranian ports, according to a US official. The Lian Star ignored several US warnings while approaching an Iranian port in the Gulf of Oman.
The US military disabled the vessel using aircraft, leaving it adrift in the Gulf. This incident marks the sixth ship stopped by US forces during the blockade, implemented on April 17 in response to Iran's control over the strait following the onset of conflict in late February.
This ongoing situation in the Strait of Hormuz continues to affect the global economy, with disruptions impacting oil and natural gas shipments. The blockade aims to restrict Iran’s financial resources, further burdening its economy, while discussions on extending a temporary ceasefire and resolving nuclear program disputes remain ongoing.
