Tribal students studying in Eklavya Model Residential Schools (EMRSs) across India are set to gain greater access to computer science and artificial intelligence education through an expanded partnership between the National Education Society for Tribal Students (NESTS) and Learning Links Foundation (LLF). The two organisations have signed a renewed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to implement the Amazon Future Engineer (AFE) programme in EMRSs from April 2026 to March 2028. The initiative aims to strengthen digital learning opportunities for tribal students and equip them with skills needed in an increasingly technology-driven world. The collaboration has already reached nearly 80,000 students from Classes VI to IX since its launch in 2022. The next phase will significantly widen its reach, covering 443 EMRSs and benefiting more than two lakh students across the country.

Focus on Coding, AI Awareness and Future Careers

The Amazon Future Engineer programme has been designed to introduce students to modern technological concepts through engaging and practical learning experiences. The curriculum focuses on three major areas. Students will learn the fundamentals of computer science, including coding, computational thinking and problem-solving techniques. They will also be introduced to artificial intelligence through hands-on activities and project-based learning that help explain how AI technologies work in everyday life.

Another important component of the programme involves career exposure. Students will get opportunities to learn about careers in the technology sector through virtual industry interactions and introductory sessions that showcase emerging job opportunities. The programme uses an activity-based approach that encourages students to apply classroom concepts to real-world situations. This method is expected to strengthen creativity, innovation and critical thinking skills while making technology education more accessible and relatable.

Digital Devices and Teacher Training to Support Learning

The partnership extends beyond curriculum delivery. Amazon is also supporting efforts to improve digital infrastructure in schools serving tribal communities. During the 2024-25 academic year, more than 284 refurbished laptops were distributed to teachers in EMRSs. The initiative will be expanded further in the 2026-27 academic year, with more than 900 digital devices planned for distribution across 238 schools. The additional equipment is expected to improve access to technology-enabled learning and create better classroom experiences for students.

To ensure effective implementation, Learning Links Foundation will provide teacher training, mentoring and academic support through qualified resource persons. Regular monitoring and feedback systems will also be put in place to track progress and address challenges.

NESTS will coordinate with participating schools and facilitate the involvement of teachers in capacity-building programmes. The organisation will also support the rollout of the curriculum across EMRS campuses. The expanded collaboration reflects the Government of India's efforts to bridge the digital divide in underserved communities. By combining technology education, infrastructure support and teacher development, the initiative seeks to improve digital literacy, enhance career readiness and help tribal students explore opportunities in fast-growing technology sectors.
