Deputy Minister in The Presidency Kenny Morolong will engage the Free State Provincial Executive Council on Wednesday as part of efforts to strengthen coordination in government communication, nation branding and support for community media across the province.
The engagement will bring together provincial leaders and representatives from key communication institutions to discuss strategies for improving how government information reaches citizens and how communication efforts can be better aligned across different levels of government.
Morolong will be accompanied by officials from the Government Communication and Information System (GCIS), the Media Development and Diversity Agency (MDDA) and Brand South Africa (Brand SA).
Programme Supports Integrated Government Messaging
According to The Presidency, the meeting forms part of government's broader communication policy advocacy programme, which seeks to build a more coordinated and integrated communication system across national, provincial and local government structures.
Effective government communication has become increasingly important as public institutions work to ensure that citizens have access to accurate information on policies, programmes and service delivery initiatives. The programme is intended to improve communication planning while promoting greater consistency in government messaging.
Discussions are also expected to focus on strengthening collaboration between government communicators and agencies responsible for supporting media development and promoting South Africa's national image.
Community Media and Nation Branding Among Key Priorities
The engagement will examine ways to expand support for community media platforms, which play an important role in providing local news and information, particularly in underserved communities. Community media outlets are often a primary source of information for residents in rural and township areas and are regarded as important partners in public communication.
Nation branding will also form a key part of the discussions. Brand South Africa's involvement reflects government's ongoing efforts to promote a positive and unified national identity while enhancing the country's reputation domestically and internationally.
The Free State meeting follows a similar engagement held in the North West Province in March 2026. It forms part of a nationwide rollout designed to strengthen communication systems, promote a cohesive national narrative and improve collaboration between government institutions and media stakeholders.
Officials believe the programme will contribute to more effective public communication while ensuring that government messages reach communities in a coordinated and accessible manner across the country.
