Britain Tightens Sanctions on Russian Financial and Logistics Networks
Britain has imposed sanctions on the banking arm of Russian firm Yandex, several lenders, and vessels involved in exporting Russian oil and gas. This move aims to pressure networks supporting Russia’s operations in Ukraine. The new measures also target clandestine military procurement networks and offer financial support for Ukraine’s energy security.
The United Kingdom has intensified its sanctions against Russia, targeting the banking division of Yandex and various financial entities involved in exporting Russian oil and gas. The sanctions also aim at a covert military procurement network aiding the Kremlin's war efforts in Ukraine.
Announced during a Group of Seven summit in France, the measures, endorsed by Prime Minister Keir Starmer, cover over 20 oil tankers and liquefied natural gas vessels. Notably, Britain is the first G7 country to sanction ships linked to the Arctic LNG 2 project.
Alongside targeting Russia's logistical networks, the UK has imposed sanctions on almost 600 vessels and intercepted one. New targets include a secretive network named Neptune, alleged to be obtaining Western technology for Russia's defense sector.
