President Droupadi Murmu has said spiritual awakening can play a powerful role in empowering tribal communities while helping society move towards harmony, equality and sustainable development. The President was speaking at the function "Empowerment of Tribal Society by Spiritual Awakening", organised by Prajapita Brahma Kumaris Ishwariya Vishwa Vidyalaya in Betul, Madhya Pradesh, on 18 June 2026.
She said the modern world, shaped by fast lifestyles and rising consumption, needs spiritual purity more than ever. According to her, such values can guide people towards responsible living, respect for natural resources and a more balanced way of life.
Tribal Values Closely Linked to Nature
President Murmu said tribal communities already live in ways that reflect many core spiritual values. Their strong bond with nature, forests, land and natural resources has helped shape a lifestyle rooted in care, balance and collective wellbeing. She welcomed the work being carried out by the Brahma Kumaris with tribal communities in different parts of the country, saying such efforts support social awareness and inner growth.
The President said empowerment should not be viewed only through the lens of economic progress. Real empowerment, she noted, comes when people act with self-confidence, dignity, awareness and a clear sense of responsibility towards society. Spiritual awakening helps individuals recognise their inner strength, develop positive thinking and connect their lives with higher goals, she added.
Call for Developed India by 2047
President Murmu stressed that development must remain connected to traditional values. A strong society, she said, is built when progress draws strength from cultural roots while also opening new opportunities for future generations. She said a balance between development and heritage can create a deeper sense of equality and harmony across society. Such an approach would also help set new standards for inclusive growth.
Calling for collective commitment, the President urged people to work towards building a developed India by 2047, where spirituality, social harmony, environmental protection and human welfare form the foundation of national progress. She said these values can guide the country towards a future that is not only prosperous, but also compassionate, balanced and sustainable.
