Lebanon needs IMF technical help, advice on Eurobond - senior MP
- Country:
- Lebanon
Lebanon needs IMF technical assistance and should draw on IMF advice in its decision on whether to pay a forthcoming Eurobond maturity, senior MP Alain Aoun told Reuters on Tuesday, saying this was expected to be the position of his political party too. Aoun is a leading figure in the Free Patriotic Movement, the political party founded by President Michel Aoun which named six of the ministers in Prime Minister Hassan Diab's government.
Earlier, Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri was quoted as saying Lebanon needed IMF technical help to draw up an economic rescue plan and a decision on whether to pay a Eurobond maturing in March should be taken based on IMF advice. MP Aoun said he supported this position.
