There is a disturbing trend of rise in young Australians, especially school children filming themselves committing violent crimes and uploading it on social media. These children call themselves ‘eshays’ and are described as ‘wannabe gangsters’ who wear designer clothes and bum bags and shockingly carry knives.

Sources say the children have various social media accounts where they boast about the drugs they take and detail their violent criminal acts. And these eshay accounts are popping up in Sydney, Melbourne, the Gold Coast and Perth.

A parent confided that the dangerous group of kids were brought to his attention after his child showed him a disturbing video. The footage showed two school kids who were walking home, being harassed by a group of teenagers. Suddenly a boy starts attacking one of the students, punching and kicking him as the other child screams at him to stop. He said the violent attacks were a way of earning respect within these groups.

“Its very concerning because I am sure there are parents out there who don’t know that their kids are being assaulted,” the parent says. “They like to instigate fights against innocent children, they steal, wear designer clothes and some of them even carry knives.” Another video shows a group of young teenagers bashing a boy against a fence, hitting and kicking him until one of them demands he hand over his watch.

Terry Goldsworth, a criminologist at Bond University and former police officer called for the police to start cracking down on these groups. Goldsworth said they are just bullies and cowards and ultimately criminals. “If you look at some of the assaults, you can see the footage of they are punching to the head, they are kicking to the head.” Goldsworth said its the kind of behavior they focused on when they had coward punching laws come in. “Any force to the head can be potentially life threatening.”
