Delhi is grappling with a substantial water shortage, with the Delhi Jal Board (DJB) reporting a deficit of around 100 million gallons per day (MGD) against the government's goals. This situation arises amidst scorching summer temperatures.
The DJB, which is mandated to ensure clean water for the city, stated it could only deliver about 904 MGD, falling short of the target of 1,002 MGD. This shortfall is due to reduced inflow from Haryana, crucial for the city's supply.
Residents in areas like North Delhi and Greater Kailash 2 are particularly impacted. Complaints of irregular or completely absent water supply are rampant, forcing many to purchase water. Despite promises of tanker deliveries, these are not forthcoming, exacerbating frustrations among the public.
Chetan Sharma of the Federation of GKII Complex of Resident Welfare Association highlighted the ongoing issues, underscoring the lack of evening supply and an unreliable morning flow, describing the situation as having 'low pressure and poor quality'.
