An official report has detailed Uttarakhand's significant strides in wastewater management, revealing an increase in treatment capacity from 152.9 MLD in 2015 to an expected 428 MLD by 2024. This expansion encompasses 69 sewage treatment plants.

The report, formulated by the National Institute of Urban Affairs and Dasra, was unveiled at the Uttarakhand Urban Sanitation Conclave 2026. It anticipates a capacity increase to nearly 700 MLD upon completion of current projects. Notable achievements include the implementation of key regulations and the state being declared open defecation free in 2018.
