Muthoot robbery case: History-sheeter who shot staff held

A person who the police claimed was the shooter in the June 14 Muthoot robbery case in Maharashtra's Nashik city has been arrested from Surat in neighbouring Gujarat, a senior official said Tuesday. Nashik police commissioner Vishwas Nangare Patil said Parminder Singh was picked up based on leads on late Monday night.

Singh is a resident of Uttar Pradesh and is a history-sheeter with serious offences against his name in his native state and also in Bihar, the commissioner said. On June 14, an armed gang of masked robbers stormed into the office of Muthoot Finance located near City Centre Mall in Untwadi locality and opened fire after they failed to loot valuables.

Sajju Samuel (32), a computer engineer who switched on the siren that foiled the plan, unfortunately, was shot. "Parminder Singh has confessed to shooting Sajju Samuel," Nangare Patil said.

Mastermind Jitendrasinh Vijaybahadur Rajput was earlier arrested from Surat on Sunday. Nangare Patil said police teams are closing in on the other accused and they are likely to be arrested soon.

He identified the rest of the gang as Anuj Sahu alias Pappu of West Bengal, Akashsinh Vijaybahadur Rajput and Subhash Gaur, both from UP.
