4-year-old boy dies, parents injured as part of slab collapses

A four-year-old boy died and his parents were injured after a part of a slab of a residential building collapsed on them in Ulhasnagar town in the district on Sunday, fire brigade sources said. The incident took place in the morning, they said.

"It is a five-storey building. A portion of the fifth floor slab fell on the boy and his parents living in a flat on the fourth floor," said Bhaskar Nirpagar, chief fire officer of the Ulhasnagar Municipal Corporation (UMC). The boy, Niraj Satpute, died on the spot, while his parents suffered injuries in the incident, he added.

"On being alerted, firemen and personnel of the disaster control cell rushed to the scene. The entire building was evacuated," the official said, adding that the injured were admitted to a local hospital. The building is old and dilapidated one, Nirpagar said, adding that the civic body will assess the situation and accordingly decide the future course of action..
