Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Saturday said that the Padma Bhushan award for late Manohar Parrikar was "a tribute to the great visionary leader of masses". "Delighted that Late Shri Manohar Bhai Parrikar has been conferred upon the Padma Bhushan award (Public Affairs) posthumously. A tribute to the great visionary leader of masses," Sawant tweeted.

Parrikar died on March 17, 2019, after a prolonged battle with cancer. Parrikar's son Utpal said the conferment of Padma Bhushan on his father was "inspirational" for every Goan.

"Thank You Prime Minister @narendramodi ji and HM @AmitShah ji for bestowing Padma Bhushan award in recognition of my father @manoharparrikar's contribution towards public service and whatever small part he played towards nation-building. "This will be inspirational to every Goan including me that although we come from a very small state like Goa can contribute immensely towards nation!" he tweeted.

Goa BJP spokesperson Damu Naik said the award is a recognition of the policies that Parrikar conceived and implemented in public interest. "The award is an honor for all Goans who were lucky to have a leader like Parrikar," Naik said.

"Parrikar would be remembered for years to come for his ability to govern the state with a human face," he said.
