Retired judge of the Chhattisgarh High Court TP Sharma was appointed today the new chief Lokayukta of the state.
Sharma will head the Chhattisgarh Lok Ayog, set up to deal with corruption cases against public servants.
A notification regarding the appointment of Sharma by the Governor was issued by the General Administration Department here. Sharma, the state's fourth chief Lokayukta, will succeed Justice (retired) Shambhu Nath Shrivastava, who was appointed to the post on August 14, 2013.
"In exercise of powers conferred by sub-section (5) of Section 3 of the Chhattisgarh Lok Ayog Adhiniyam, 2002 (No. 30 of 2002), the Governor has appointed justice (retired) TP Sharma, former Judge of the Chhattisgarh High Court, Bilaspur, as Pramukh Lokayukta of the Chhattisgarh Lok Ayog from the date he assumes office," the notification said.
