Collan Rex gets 23 years of imprisonment, Judge calls him sex offender

The South Gauteng High Court on Thursday sentenced Collan Rex, the former Parktown Boys' High School water polo coach, to 23 years in prison.

Collan Rex, the former Parktown Boys' High School water polo coach has sentenced to 23 years in prison. He has been found guilty of 144 counts of sexual assault and 12 counts of common assault.

The 23-year old Collan Rex said he didn't know his actions were wrong because he was exposed to bullying, wrestling and games that involved touching of genitals when he was a pupil at the school. But the Acting Judge Peet Johnson has rejected his version saying that he never believes that Rex was unaware of the consequences to his actions.

While handing down judgment, Judge Johnson told Rex that he took into consideration the fact that his victims were under suicide watch. According to the Judge, his actions had a devastating effect on the victims. Thus, he is described as a serial sex offender and a bully.' The term of 23 years of imprisonment is expected to be served immediately.
