A project focused essentially on the production of cattle called Agridamba, was launched at the prison in Damba, Mucari on December 4. This is to ensure social reintegration of the prisoners through their contribution to agricultural production and meat.

Installed in an area of three thousand hectares, the project was launched by the Secretary of State for the Interior, José Bamokina Zau, and will initially have a production of 70 hectares of corn and an animal population of 100 head of cattle, foreseeing for the coming times the cultivation of beans, soybeans, potatoes, and citrus fruits.

The initiative, which is financed by the German government, is the responsibility of the Social Welfare Fund of the Ministry of the Interior and calls for the installation of maize processing industries by 2019. The bet will initially go through the implementation of six silos for the storage of said cereal, with capacity for two thousand tons each.

On the occasion, the Secretary of State for the Interior, José Bamokina Zau, stressed that with the launch of Agridamba, "the intention is to recover the levels of production that Damba has registered in the past, as well as to turn the unit into a real pole agro-livestock ".

According to the leader, the attainment of food self-sufficiency is one of the objectives of the sector and has ensured the combination of efforts in order to produce more and more.

In turn, the director general of the Caprós project management company, António Roberto, will involve 650 inmates, with a harvest of 10,000 tonnes of maize in the first campaign.

The launch of the Agridamba project culminated in the delivery of tractors, implements, fertilizers, motor pumps and corn seeds to support the 2018/2019 agricultural campaign at the Damba Prison Unit, which was also opened on Tuesday.

Along with the working day in Damba, the Secretary of State for the Interior visited the works of the future facilities of the delegation of the Ministry in Malanje, the Provincial Command of the National Police and the works of the post of integrated detachment of the Civil Protection and Fire Service.
