Three persons have been arrested with arms and ammunition in Assam's Kaziranga National Park for trying to poach one-horned rhinos, a forest officer said on Thursday.
The three were nabbed while they were about to enter the Agaratoli range of the park late on Wednesday, Divisional Forest Officer of the park Rohini Saikia said.
"We have recovered a modified 303 rifle, a silencer and 15 rounds of live ammunition from their possession. They have confessed that they were entering the park to poach one-horned rhino," said Saikia.
Poaching incidents have reduced in the Kaziranaga National Park compared to previous years. While 18 rhinos were killed in 2017, six were killed in 2018.
On December 29, the forest officials arrested seven persons after recovering tiger skin and bones from their possession.
