How medical institutions in Zambia get human corpses – Peter Sinkamba seeks answer

In the last couple of years, Zambia has witnessed the emergence of several medical schools and colleges in various parts. And, practice and teaching of human body's dissection are mandatory. In this regard, the renowned Zambian entrepreneur, Peter Sinkamba questions government the source(s) of human corpses.

Apart from asking the source(s) of acquiring human corpses, the 54-year old former candidate of Green Party of Zambia questions the law behind the process involved. "What is the official Government programme on the acquisition of dead bodies for medical studies?" questions Peter Sinkamba.

"I ask these questions because there is dead silence on this very important, yet very sensitive topic. It is seldom discussed in public yet things are happening behind the closed doors of medical lecture rooms. Dead bodies are being dissected for study purposes. It is a sensitive topic, yes, but the public is entitled to know the sources of cadavers, and must also in-kind contribution to the success of the programme," says Sinkamba, who contested the presidential election in 2016.

The perusal of Government budget nowadays does not show any expenditure line for cadaver 'purchase' like before, he claims. So, according to him, the public needs genuine answer to how the government acquires cadavers for the medical students. Is it unclaimed bodies, prisoners, vagabonds or what? he questions, as reported by Lusaka Times.

Sinkamba also questions the government the process of disposing of the bones and other human wastes after use. He further stresses that the public needs to know otherwise 'future will never forgive if things are done in wrong ways'.
