Congress continues attack on Modi government over demonetization report

Congress leader Oommen Chandy Thursday asked the BJP-led NDA government to explain the facts about demonetization to the people in the wake of an RBI report that 99.3 percent of the demonetized notes returned to the banks.

Chandy in a Facebook post said the RBI report was proof that the demonetization initiative could not fulfill the objectives for which it was launched by the government.

Unearthing black money, containing counterfeit notes and terrorism were the main objectives stated by the government during the time of demonetization, Chandy said. On the other hand, the common people were put through tough times and the unorganized sector was badly affected too, he said.

"Demonetisation is a big failure of the Narendra Modi government.I urge the prime minister to make it clear why he inflicted so much pain on our people," Chandy said.
