EU official claims negotiations on Brexit harder than expected

Britain leaves at the end of March 2019 insist that the economic part of British Prime Minister Theresa May's plan for relations with the EU after the divorce will not work.

Negotiations on Britain's withdrawal from the European Union are proving to be harder than expected and a summit of EU leaders this week will decide if there is enough progress for another summit on Brexit next month, a senior EU official said on Tuesday.

The 27 countries that will remain in the bloc after Britain leaves at the end of March 2019 insist that the economic part of British Prime Minister Theresa May's plan for relations with the EU after the divorce will not work, the official said.
