The BJP's new Rajasthan unit chief CP Joshi on Monday called on party workers to defeat the Congress in the next assembly elections. Joshi, who took charge after offering prayers at the BJP's state headquarters here, said he would work with the cooperation of all senior leaders.

Targeting the state's Congress government, he said, ''We have to throw out the government that cheated the youth, throw out the government that cheated the farmers.'' Referring to the recent hailstorms in several areas of the state, Joshi alleged that no 'girdawari (assessment)' was done by the government despite farmers being affected. Assembly elections in Rajasthan are due later this year. Joshi said, ''We will neither sleep nor let you sleep for (the next) six months. Take a pledge that we will give sleepless nights to this Congress government and that the Bharatiya Janata Party government will be formed with a thumping majority in 2023.'' Joshi, the Lok Sabha MP from Chittorgarh, also urged the party workers to promote the schemes and achievements of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led central government.

During his address, Joshi also referred to the construction of the Ram temple in Ayodhya and the abrogation of Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir.

After taking charge, Joshi tweeted in Hindi, ''Assumed the post of state president of the Bharatiya Janata Party (in) Rajasthan today. On this occasion, I take a pledge that I will always be ready to serve the nation and the organisation.” Earlier, speaking to reporters in Kotputli, Joshi said, ''We will work as Team Rajasthan. I am a party worker and will work (as state president) with the guidance and support of senior leaders.'' ''We will become Team Rajasthan and take the party forward,'' he added.

He also termed the Congress government in the state as ''incompetent and useless''.

Joshi, who reached Jaipur by road from Delhi, was welcomed by the party workers at many places along the Delhi-Jaipur Highway. He also visited the Khole ke Hanuman ji temple in Jaipur. Joshi's inauguration as the BJP's Rajasthan unit chief evoked enthusiasm among party workers, who gathered from various parts of the state at the party headquarters. Union ministers Gajendra Singh and Kailash Chaudhary, Joshi's predecessor Satish Poonia, the BJP's Rajasthan in-charge Arun Singh and several other leaders were present at the programme.
