Singapore finance minister handed key party post

Singapore's ruling party named Finance Minister Heng Swee Keat on Friday to a key leadership post, possibly putting him in line to take over as prime minister when current leader Lee Hsien Loong steps down.

Heng was named the People's Action Party's first assistant secretary general, the party said in a statement on its website. The appointment is seen as a strong sign that he will eventually succeed Lee.
