Putin proposes family support measures ahead of presidential election

Russian President Vladimir Putin proposed higher child benefits and other measures on Thursday to support large families, just a few weeks before an election in which he is widely expected to win another six-year term in power.

Russia's low birth rate has posed demographic problems for the Russian authorities for many years.
