Ramaphosa Stands Firm Amid Election Setback

In the wake of South Africa's election, ANC official Nomvula Mokonyane confirmed that President Cyril Ramaphosa would not resign despite the party's potential loss of majority. Mokonyane stressed the collective confidence within the ANC leadership in Ramaphosa's continued presidency.

One of the top officials in South Africa's African National Congress (ANC) said on Friday that President Cyril Ramaphosa would not resign over this week's election, where the ANC is on course to lose its majority for the first time in 30 years.

ANC official Nomvula Mokonyane told reporters at the election results centre: "Nobody is going to resign, ... collectively all of us we still are confident that he (Ramaphosa) has to remain the president of the ANC".
