Pakistani authorities are gearing up to investigate former Prime Minister Imran Khan along with other key leaders of Pakistan-Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) over a contentious tweet. The tweet, posted from Khan’s account on May 26, suggested that every Pakistani should study the Hamoodur Rahman Commission Report to understand who was the real traitor between General Yahya Khan and Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
The accompanying video squarely blamed the former military dictator Yahya Khan for the breakup of East Pakistan in 1971, citing alleged military atrocities. The video further implicated current civilian and military leaders in election rigging allegations.
This tweet has ignited fierce debates, particularly involving government ministers who accuse PTI of fostering anti-military sentiments. The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has already issued a notice to Imran Khan and visited him in jail, though he declined to meet without his lawyers present. PTI leaders Omar Ayub Khan, Barrister Gohar Ali Khan, and Raoof Hasan have also been summoned for questioning.
