SKM Secures Second Consecutive Term in Sikkim

The Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM) won 21 out of 32 seats in the Sikkim assembly elections, returning to power for a second term. Led by Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang, the SKM is leading in 10 more seats. The Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF) secured only one seat.

The Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM) secured a second consecutive term in the Himalayan state by winning 21 out of 32 assembly seats, officials confirmed on Sunday. This victory grants the SKM a clear majority.

Under the leadership of Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang, the party is also ahead in 10 additional constituencies. Notably, Tamang triumphed in the Rhenock seat with a margin of over 7,000 votes and is leading in the Soreng Chakung constituency.

In stark contrast, the Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF), which governed the state for 25 years until 2019, won just one seat. SDF president and ex-chief minister Pawan Kumar Chamling lost in both contested seats. The assembly elections coincided with the first phase of Lok Sabha polls on April 19.
