SKM Secures Second Term: Landslide Victory in Sikkim Assembly

The Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM) won a landslide victory in the 2024 Sikkim Assembly elections, securing 31 out of 32 seats. SKM president and Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang retained his positions by winning from two constituencies. The opposition SDF and BJP saw significant losses, with minimal votes.

The Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM) clinched a resounding victory in the 2024 Sikkim Assembly elections, securing 31 out of 32 seats, marking their second consecutive term in power.

Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang, who leads SKM, won in both constituencies he contested, securing 58.38% of the votes. In stark contrast, the Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF), once the ruling party for 25 years until 2019, managed to win just one seat. Notably, SDF president Pawan Kumar Chamling was defeated in both his constituencies.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated Tamang and the SKM for their victory and expressed eagerness to collaborate for Sikkim's progress. Despite contesting in 31 seats, the BJP failed to secure any, garnering only 5.18% of the votes. Sikkim BJP president Dilli Ram Thapa also faced a defeat against SKM's Kala Rai.
