AGP's Phani Bhushan Choudhury is currently leading in Assam’s Barpeta constituency with a substantial margin of over 1.77 lakh votes against Deep Bayan of Congress, according to election officials. Choudhury has amassed 5,39,478 votes, while Bayan has managed to secure 3,62,364. This victory cements Choudhury’s position, given he is an eight-time AGP MLA and the longest-serving legislator in the state.

The realignment of Barpeta constituency’s assembly segments during the delimitation exercise played a crucial role in changing the political landscape of the region. Consequently, Congress decided to deny a ticket to its sitting MP Abdul Khaleque. This shift allowed Choudhury to gain a significant advantage.

In Nagaon, Congress MP Pradyut Bordoloi leads by over 1.36 lakh votes against BJP’s Suresh Borah. Bordoloi, seeking his second consecutive term, has secured 4,64,018 votes, while Borah, a former Congress member, garnered 3,27,702 votes. Bordoloi had previously served as a minister in Tarun Gogoi’s government, while Borah joined BJP just months before the Lok Sabha polls.
