On Thursday, Sharad Pawar, president of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) Sharadchandra Pawar faction, convened with newly-elected MPs from his party and engaged in discussions with them.
The NCP (SP) surfaced as a dominant force, securing eight out of the 10 Lok Sabha seats it contested in Maharashtra during the recent Lok Sabha elections. Contesting as part of the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) alliance alongside Shiv Sena (UBT) and Congress, the NCP (SP) saw only two of its victors, Supriya Sule (Baramati) and Nilesh Lanke (Ahmednagar), absent from the meeting at the party office.
In attendance were Amol Kolhe (Shirur), Bhaskar Bhagre (Dindori), Suresh Mhatre (Bhiwandi), Bajrang Sonawane (Beed), Dhairyasheel Mohite Patil (Madha), and Amar Kale (Wardha). Pawar held interactions with both MPs and party members, reviewing the party's performance at the elections.
Striking an 80% success rate, the NCP (SP) starkly contrasted with Ajit Pawar's faction, which secured just one seat out of four, achieving a 25% strike rate. Notably, the eight seats include Baramati, which witnessed a fierce contest between Supriya Sule and Sunetra Pawar.
The Ajit Pawar-led NCP managed a lone victory in Raigad with state unit president Sunil Tatkare's win over Shiv Sena (UBT)'s Anant Geete. The party experienced a split following Ajit Pawar's rebellion in July last year, with the Election Commission recognizing Ajit Pawar's camp as the 'real NCP' and granting them the 'clock' symbol.
