The Congress Working Committee (CWC), in an assertive move, unanimously urged Rahul Gandhi to take the mantle of the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha. This step marks the party's resolve to contest the new government resolutely and capitalize on its electoral gains.

While Rahul Gandhi remains contemplative, promising a decision soon, Sonia Gandhi was re-elected as chairperson of the Congress Parliamentary Party by the newly-elected MPs and members of the Rajya Sabha. The meeting, held in the Central hall of Parliament, spanned over three hours.

The Congress is committed to addressing its underperformance in certain states through the formation of separate review committees, which are tasked with presenting their findings to the party chief. This reflective approach is part of the broader strategy to resurrect the party's standing on the national stage.
