B Srinivasa Varma: From Grassroots to Ministerial Oath

B Srinivasa Varma, recently sworn in as a minister, is a notable BJP leader from Bhimavaram, Andhra Pradesh. Beginning his journey with the party's youth wing over three decades ago, Varma has held numerous positions, eventually winning his first major electoral victory in 2024, defeating YSRCP’s G Umabala.

A grassroots leader who has seen a meteoric rise through the political ranks, B Srinivasa Varma took the ministerial oath on Sunday. Hailing from Bhimavaram, the rice bowl of Andhra Pradesh, Varma began his political journey over three decades ago with the BJP's youth wing, the yuva morcha.

Now 57 years old, Varma's political career spans various important roles. He began as the BJYM district president in 1991 and has since taken on positions such as Bhimavaram town president, West Godavari district secretary, and state secretary. His organizational skills were highlighted as he managed BJP state executive meetings in Bhimavaram four times.

Though Varma faced electoral defeat in 2009 when he contested from the Narsapuram Lok Sabha constituency, he emerged victorious in 2024. A businessman and former Bhimavaram municipality councillor, Varma secured a landslide victory against YSRCP’s G Umabala with a margin of 2.7 lakh votes, polling an impressive 7,07,343 votes in total.
