Macron Dissolves National Assembly, Calls for Snap Legislative Election Amid Heavy Defeat

French President Emmanuel Macron announced the dissolution of the National Assembly and called for a snap legislative election following his party's heavy loss in the European Parliament elections. The elections will be held in two rounds on June 30 and July 7.

In a bold move responding to a significant electoral setback, French President Emmanuel Macron declared on Sunday that he would dissolve the National Assembly and initiate a snap legislative election.

Addressing the nation from the Elysee presidential palace, Macron stated, “I've decided to give you back the choice of our parliamentary future through the vote. I am therefore dissolving the National Assembly.”

The decision follows preliminary results revealing that the far-right National Rally party had outperformed Macron's pro-European centrists in the European Parliament elections. As a result, the legislative vote is scheduled for two rounds on June 30 and July 7.
