The bypoll for the Jalandhar West assembly seat is slated for July 10, according to Punjab Chief Electoral Officer Sibin C. This follows the resignation of Sheetal Angural, an AAP legislator, who made the switch to BJP along with former Jalandhar MP Sushil Rinku.
Sibin C confirmed that the official notification for the bypoll will be released on June 14. Prospective candidates have until June 21 to file their nominations, which will face scrutiny on June 24. The deadline for withdrawing nominations is set for June 26.
Nine days later, on July 13, the votes will be counted, marking the conclusion of this electoral process. In the interim, the Model Code of Conduct is in effect across Jalandhar West. During the 2022 elections, Angural had defeated then-Congress candidate Rinku in the same constituency.
