The Jharkhand Congress is ramping up preparations to contest 33 out of the 81 assembly seats in the forthcoming elections, according to senior party leader Ghulam Ahmad Mir. The party, which contested 31 seats in the 2019 elections in alliance with JMM and RJD, is aiming to fortify its position in the state legislature.
'We contested 31 seats in the last assembly polls. Two more MLAs have since joined the party, increasing our tally to 33 seats,' Mir told reporters.
The final number of seats to be contested will be governed by a seat-sharing agreement, yet to be finalized. Discussions around election strategies and filling vacant cabinet berths are ongoing, with input from senior party leaders including AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge and former chief Rahul Gandhi. Assembly elections in Maharashtra, Haryana, and Jharkhand are expected later this year, with the current assembly's tenure concluding on January 5, 2025.
