PDP's Mehbooba Mufti Welcomes Engineer Rashid's Permission to Take Oath

PDP President Mehbooba Mufti expressed relief over the permission granted to Sheikh Abdul Rashid, known as Engineer Rashid, to take the oath as an MP. She also called for the release of Rashid and other Kashmiri detainees, terming his imprisonment since 2019 as unjust.

PDP President Mehbooba Mufti has expressed her relief over the recent permission granted to Sheikh Abdul Rashid, commonly known as Engineer Rashid, to take his oath as a Member of Parliament.

The former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister has called for the immediate release of Rashid and other Kashmiri men detained in various prisons, describing the charges against him as baseless and his imprisonment since 2019 as an utter travesty of justice.

Rashid, currently in Tihar jail on a terror-funding case, had previously defeated National Conference (NC) vice-president Omar Abdullah in the Lok Sabha polls from the Baramulla constituency by a margin exceeding two lakh votes.
