In a significant development, Bjorn Hocke, a prominent figure in the far-right Alternative for Germany party, faced his second conviction on Monday for the deliberate use of a Nazi slogan at a political gathering. Hocke plans to run for governor in Thuringia, an eastern state, in September.
The Halle Regional Court imposed a fine amounting to 16,900 euros (USD 18,000) on Hocke for leveraging the banned slogan “Everything for Germany.” The 52-year-old was found guilty of using signs associated with unconstitutional and terrorist organizations.
Despite this second conviction, Hocke remains undeterred and insists on his innocence. He asserted, “I know I will be convicted. But that doesn't feel fair to me.” The case has ignited a broader discussion on the legal ramifications of using historically charged language and symbols in political discourse.
