In a significant development for Indian politics, a fresh vacancy has emerged in the Rajya Sabha as K Keshava Rao tendered his resignation. Previously a Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) MP representing Telangana, Rao has switched his political allegiance by joining the Congress.
The resignation was officially accepted by House chairperson Jagdeep Dhankhar on Friday, leading to a vacant seat. Keshava Rao had been a member of the Rajya Sabha since 2020. His shift in party allegiance was formalized on Wednesday, prompting his resignation on Thursday.
Rao's exit adds to the already significant number of vacant seats, bringing the total to 16. The other 15 vacant seats in the Rajya Sabha include positions from Jammu and Kashmir, Maharashtra, Assam, Bihar, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Tripura, as per the latest tally.
