The Congress and the INDIA bloc will put the need for peace in Manipur at the forefront during Parliament sessions to compel government action, announced Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, on Thursday. His statement follows a visit to the violence-stricken state.
Gandhi reiterated that Prime Minister Narendra Modi must visit Manipur and call for peace. He made these remarks on X, sharing a video of his interactions with residents during his visit.
Gandhi noted that despite multiple visits, the situation remains dire with the state divided, homes burning, and thousands living in relief camps. He urged the Prime Minister to listen to the people and appeal for peace. During his recent visit, Gandhi toured three relief camps and spoke with displaced people from both ethnic groups involved in the conflict.
Tagging the video, Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra questioned the Prime Minister's silence and the lack of government efforts for peace in Manipur, which has been unstable for over a year. The Budget Session of Parliament is scheduled from July 22 to August 12.
