Manish Kumar Verma, a close aide to Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, was appointed to a significant organizational role in the Janata Dal (United) party just two days after joining. Verma stated that the party is determined to push for the Centre to grant special status or a special package to the state of Bihar.
Highlighting the JD(U)'s strong performance in the Lok Sabha elections, Verma conveyed that the party feels the upcoming assembly polls should be led by Nitish Kumar. However, he noted the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) will make a final decision closer to the election date, set for the end of next year.
The NDA coalition includes the BJP, Union Minister Chirag Paswan-led LJP, and other smaller parties in Bihar, alongside JD(U). Amid speculation that JD(U) president Kumar might be grooming Verma, a Kurmi like Kumar from Nalanda, as a pivotal party figure, Verma praised his long association with the chief minister. Having served under Kumar for nine years during his time as an Odisha cadre officer, Verma resigned from the IAS to join key government bodies under Kumar's leadership.
