Mexican President-elect Claudia Sheinbaum announced on Thursday that she has chosen Lazaro Cardenas, a former congressman and governor, to be her chief of staff. Cardenas, esteemed for his deep-rooted leftist legacy, brings extensive political experience to the role.

Cardenas, 60, is the son of Cuauhtemoc Cardenas, an elder statesman of Mexico's left and a co-founder of the Party of the Democratic Revolution (PRD). He is also the grandson of former President Lazaro Cardenas, who nationalized Mexico's oil industry in 1938. Cardenas expressed his honor in serving this significant role.

Sheinbaum highlighted that Cardenas' job will involve overseeing the government's strategic issues and managing relationships with various sectors. Known for his managerial skills, Cardenas resigned from his previous role as coordinator of presidential advisors to join CELAC before taking on this new responsibility.
