Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren visited Congress Parliamentary Party chief Sonia Gandhi in a courtesy call at her 10 Janpath residence, days after resuming his office. Soren was accompanied by his wife, Kalpana.
Soren clarified that the meeting didn't cover discussions about the upcoming Jharkhand Assembly elections, even though political matters for the state will continue to be a subject of conversation. The visit marked their first interaction since the Lok Sabha elections and Soren's release from jail.
The JMM executive president expressed admiration for Indian voters' patience and emphasized their tendency to voice concerns through voting. He also wished for Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s swift bail resolution.
Soren had resigned before being arrested by the Enforcement Directorate on January 31 in relation to a money laundering case and later became chief minister again on July 4 after securing bail. The Jharkhand High Court noted there is no prima facie evidence of his guilt, and assembly elections in Jharkhand are scheduled for later this year.
