Gunfire erupted at a Donald Trump rally on Saturday, sparking panic among the crowd and splattering the Republican presidential candidate with blood. Trump, after briefly dropping to his knees behind the podium, emerged quickly and was ushered to a waiting car, defiantly pumping his fist in the air.

The Secret Service and Trump's campaign confirmed he was safe following the incident in Butler, Pennsylvania, approximately 30 miles north of Pittsburgh. Live footage showed blood on Trump's right cheek and ear.

The suspected shooter was killed, as was an audience member, and another person was critically injured, the Butler County district attorney confirmed. Leading Republicans and Democrats swiftly condemned the violence, which occurred just months before the upcoming election where Trump faces Joe Biden.
