Kremlin Denounces Atmosphere Surrounding Trump Assassination Attempt
The Kremlin denied US administration involvement in the assassination attempt on presidential candidate Donald Trump but criticized the created atmosphere. Trump was shot in the ear at a Pennsylvania rally. President Biden and world leaders condemned the violence. Russia condemned the attack and highlighted US internal issues and foreign policies as contributing factors.
The Kremlin stated on Sunday that it did not believe the U.S. administration orchestrated Saturday's assassination attempt on presidential candidate Donald Trump but accused it of fostering an environment that led to the attack. Trump was injured during a rally in Pennsylvania, and the motive remains unidentified as the investigation continues. Law enforcement officials confirmed that the attacker was shot at the scene.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said, "We do not believe that the attempt to eliminate and assassinate Trump was organised by the current authorities." However, he emphasized that the political climate surrounding Trump contributed to the incident. President Joe Biden condemned the attack and called for an end to political violence in America, while Peskov echoed this sentiment, attributing blame to the atmosphere created by the current administration.
Kremlin officials, including Vyacheslav Volodin, highlighted perceived failures in U.S. domestic security and cited America's involvement in foreign conflicts as factors exacerbating internal tensions. Volodin specifically referred to Trump's stance on Ukraine as a potential reason for the attack. Moscow urged the U.S. to focus on domestic law enforcement instead of international military engagements.
