Delhi BJP legislators met Assembly speaker Ram Niwas Goel on Tuesday to push for a special session of the House to address the surge in electricity bills and waterlogging issues plaguing the city.

At a press conference following the meeting, the BJP MLAs urged the Speaker to convene a special Assembly session to draw the AAP government's attention and establish accountability for the problems experienced by residents due to high electricity costs and waterlogging.

The delegation included MLAs Vijender Gupta, Mohan Singh Bisht, Ajay Mahawar, Anil Bajpayi, and Abhay Verma. The Delhi BJP has seven MLAs in the 70-member Assembly.

Gupta pointed out that discoms have increased electricity prices under the guise of the power purchase adjustment cost (PPAC). He added that Delhi residents now face waterlogging issues during the rainy season, having recently dealt with a severe drinking water shortage.

Bajpayi mentioned that there is typically a Monsoon Session in state assemblies nationwide.

However, the Delhi government is currently focused on securing bail and handling court cases involving its jailed chief minister and ministers, leading to the neglect of Delhi residents, charged Gandhi Nagar MLA.

Bisht accused the Delhi government of failing to prepare adequately for the rainy season, resulting in severe waterlogging problems.

Mahawar raised concerns about flooding in Bawana due to damage to a sub-branch of the Munak canal, which has adversely affected thousands of lives.

Laxmi Nagar MLA Verma emphasized that the delegation stressed the need for the special Assembly session to ensure the Delhi government's accountability.
