Biden's Re-Election Bid Faces Internal Pressure as Trump Prepares for Nomination
President Joe Biden faces mounting pressure from top Democratic leaders to end his re-election campaign as concerns grow about his ability to win the 2024 election. In contrast, Donald Trump is set to accept the Republican nomination, emphasizing unity and a revised, softer tone following an assassination attempt.
President Joe Biden's reelection bid has hit fresh turbulence following reports that leading Democratic figures have urged him to halt his campaign. Meanwhile, Donald Trump is poised to accept the Republican presidential nomination.
Sources indicate that Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, and former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi have all privately conveyed their concerns to Biden. They fear his continued candidacy could not only cost the Democrats the White House but also hurt their chances of reclaiming the U.S. House of Representatives come Nov. 5. At 81, Biden has so far resisted public appeals from 20 congressional Democrats to step down, following a shaky performance at his June 27 debate against the 78-year-old Trump.
Biden's woes were further worsened on Wednesday when he tested positive for COVID-19 while campaigning in Nevada. This development forced him to isolate at his Delaware residence. Democratic U.S. Senator John Hickenlooper mentioned in an interview that Biden is contemplating his re-election decision. In a speech to conclude the four-day Republican National Convention in Milwaukee, Trump is expected to deliver a speech focusing on inclusiveness. His daughter-in-law, Lara Trump, hinted at a softer tone in his speech after surviving an assassination attempt in Pennsylvania last Saturday.
