Nepal's newly sworn-in Prime Minister K P Sharma Oli is preparing for a crucial floor test on Sunday. The political landscape heated up as three opposition parties, including the one Oli himself broke away from, announced plans to vote against him.
Oli, who succeeded Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda' last week after Dahal lost a confidence vote, currently leads a coalition that enjoys a solid majority. The Communist Party of Nepal-Unified Marxist Leninist (CPN-UML) and the Nepali Congress (NC) have joined forces, amassing 165 signatures from House of Representatives (HoR) members.
Nevertheless, Oli’s leadership is under scrutiny. The Supreme Court of Nepal has scheduled a preliminary hearing for a writ petition challenging Oli's appointment, asserting that it was unconstitutional. This comes amid a backdrop of political volatility, with Nepal witnessing 14 different governments in the past 16 years.
