TMC Slams Union Budget as Biased and Unfair to West Bengal
TMC leaders criticized the Union Budget presented by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, alleging it favored the ruling NDA and neglected West Bengal. TMC MPs termed it as discriminatory, arguing that the state's significant contributions to the Union were ignored while other states received funds.
Trinamool Congress (TMC) leaders lambasted the Union Budget presented by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Tuesday, accusing it of favoring the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA) and neglecting West Bengal.
TMC MP Kalyan Banerjee described it as a 'kursi bachao budget' (budget to save the chair), aimed at securing Prime Minister Narendra Modi's position. He criticized the budget for allocating projects to states like Odisha while ignoring West Bengal.
TMC's Rajya Sabha MP Saket Gokhale alleged 'open and shameless' discrimination against West Bengal, stating that the Union Government excluded the state from flood relief and reconstruction funds. Another Rajya Sabha MP, Sushmita Dev, pointed out that Rs 1.6 lakh crore in central funds are due to West Bengal and questioned the budget's legitimacy given the absence of a recent census.
