Vice President Kamala Harris has gained a marginal two-percentage-point lead over Republican Donald Trump following President Joe Biden's decision to end his re-election campaign and endorse her, as revealed by a Reuters/Ipsos poll. Previously, Biden faced a two-point deficit against Trump before his exit from the race.

The poll, conducted on Monday and Tuesday, came after the Republican National Convention where Trump formally accepted the nomination. Harris' campaign indicated she has secured the Democratic nomination, leading Trump 44% to 42%, a difference falling within the 3-percentage-point margin of error.

Despite nationwide polls indicating such trends, the ultimate outcome of a presidential election is determined by the U.S. Electoral College, which is swayed by a few competitive states. Harris' perceived competency and mental sharpness have swayed voter support, contrasting with perceptions of Trump and Biden.
